    Margiela, Les Années Hermès

For the first time, Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents the collections created by the visionary that is Martin Margiela, in his time as the womenswear creative director of Hermés, one of Paris’s most iconic and respected fashion houses. After being mentored by the unmistakable Jean-Paul Gaultier Margiela launched his revolutionary label, Maison Martin Margiela in 1988.

This collaboration, between 1997-2003 still has the fashion world shaking and will always remain to be one of the most unexpected and unforgettable unions in the history of luxury design. This exhibition, which has been prepared in direct collaboration between Margiela and the museum promises to show the creations in a transparent and authentic way- the way in which Margiela, the visionary intended these garments to be observed.

Martin Margiela is known for his simplistic, understated designs, which refrain from including large branding and challenge what luxury design is by employing such methods as deconstruction, recycling and raw edges. With over two decades in the spotlight, the Belgian designer remains as influential today as ever. This exhibition symbolises a celebration of his life, his dedication to his art and his continued importance both as a reference and as a creator.

This exhibition makes the perfect visit for everyone, no matter your level of awareness of Margiela and Hermés and is sure to inspire younger visitors and more mature visitors alike.

The exhibition takes place during the entire month of August in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
